About the Artist
ROBERT BLANCAS
Specializing in Trading Card Art, Book Illustration, Personalized Artwork and Graphic Design
My drawing obsession began at a very young age, but I had no idea that I wanted to become an Artist. I just liked drawing. Then one day, as a child, my mother gave me a Marvel Avengers comic book and it changed my life. After seeing the cover of that book, I immediately knew I wanted to become a Comic Book Artist and work for Marvel. Soon after, I began copying and tracing the pictures, studying other comics, and finding any book I could on drawing. No internet back in those days! I also remember my father asking me for any art I created to show off to his friends. He never gave me any feedback, that's just how my father was, but he showed me in his own way that he was proud of what I was doing and I appreciated that support.
In high school, I was taking college prep classes to prepare for my goal of attending Fresno State University. However, when I met with my guidance counselor, she wanted me to attend Fresno City community college. I was a good student, finished top 10 in my class, and I did not understand why she did not want me to apply to Fresno State. She told me she "did not think I was going to make it." Imagine being told this as a teen by your counselor that is supposed to help you! I was so upset that I went home, filled out the application and financial aid materials myself and got accepted to Fresno State with scholarships and grants.
I learned so much attending Fresno State. I will always appreciate how much my professors pushed me to try different things and even though most frowned on my comic book art, it drove me even further to prove that art with superheroes is still ART.
I have done countless Art commissions and Graphic Design work for a variety of clients. I've been a Featured Artist on local television newscasts and have been published as a Comic Book Artist, inking a few independent books. I have Illustrated two award-winning and best selling Children's books: Brave Lolis Learns English and Brave Lolis's Box of Hope where I was honored with the International Latino Award for my interior art.
Eventually I realized my dream of creating official Marvel ART! I have been creating Marvel trading cards and have literally drawn hundreds of them. Challenging work, but I will keep doing them for as long as I get asked to participate.
Here is a list of my currently released trading card projects:
• Upper Deck Marvel Renditions Spider-Man - 2024
• Topps Chrome and Sapphire Editions Marvel Studios -2025
• Topps Brooklyn Captain America 85th Anniversary - 2026
• Topps Deadpool Chrome -2026
• Topps Finest Fantastic Four 65th Anniversary -2026
Over the years I have given many class demonstrations on drawing at many elementary and high schools throughout the Central Valley. These sessions show the importance of learning the basics and demonstrate how to create a human figure from a very simple stick figure. DEMONSTRATED HERE.

Outside of drawing, I make my living as a Graphic Artist. Doing this job keeps me up-to-date on my computer and design skills. I call home in Fresno, CA where I live with my daughter and my pets.
To the counselor that told me I would not make it, I appreciate that. It drove me to pursue my dream. I think I made it.
